Nearly 25,000 households in Queensland's southeast were left experiencing outages on Monday's dawn after severe thunderstorms impacted the region, generating wind gusts topping 109 kilometers per hour.

Massive Ice Stones and Widespread Destruction

Homeowners witnessed large ice chunks as large as 7cm in particular locations. Meteorological experts verified that different parts across Queensland had been hit with substantial ice precipitation.

Emergency response teams responded to 598 calls for help across the state, mostly for building damage but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

During the peak on Sunday, more than 28,000 electricity consumers in the state were lacking electricity.

Climate Outlook

Moist weather were predicted to continue along significant areas of the state's eastern regions this week as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.

The following day was predicted as the most rainy day, with continued storm activity anticipated across various areas of both regions.

Safety Concern

Health officials warned that there was an increased chance of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the state's northern country region, especially given the ongoing climate situation.
