This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.

“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and based in heritage that bring people together. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
