The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller Merging Silent Hill and Social Deduction Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of fascinating future games, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive game where a girl harboring multiple human souls within her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Within her reside four distinct souls, all possessing their own fears and drives. These entities can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased footage, much of the narrative unfolds within a eerie medical facility, while other scenes show the main character navigating a abandoned chapel.

A World of Personal Horror

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that seem trivial to other people can trigger something primal inside us. This game delves into that idea — anxieties that are unique to every individual."

The core mechanic involves controlling the persona that surfaces at a particular time. However, these souls will switch against your will during gameplay. While exploring, each soul's anxieties become amplified and attack the girl in succession. When the soul changes, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Decision

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The setting is filled with orderlies who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Figures in the lobby have enormous flowers growing from their necks are. Floral motifs are an ever-present theme, juxtaposing organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular mechanic. Players must determine which of the four entities haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "Each of the souls asserts that the physical form belongs to them," notes a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is real."

Once players have deduced a persona is an impostor, they must eliminate it. But, since each soul can lie or obfuscate the truth, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The last one remaining could be a fraud. Either way, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced release date, but it is available to follow on digital storefronts.
