'People are intimidated' - why 'juggernaut' Arsenal have become the side to defeat.

There's no doubt why Arsenal stand as many people's favorites to win the Premier League in the current campaign.

Look at their performances against Newcastle and Crystal Palace in contrast with those same matches last season.

The Gunners have overcome all of them this time around, but surrendered 10 points across those games as they dropped off in the title race last season.

Impenetrable Backline

Arsenal's defensive strength is a key reason why they are looking well positioned to ultimately achieve their title goal.

They lead the league for clean sheets (6), goals conceded (3), shots faced (72), quality opportunities against (19) and xGA (5.3).

The defensive partnership of Gabriel and William Saliba is potentially the strongest in the league, with Arsenal maintaining a clean sheet in six of their first nine games.

Set-Piece Proficiency

Their effectiveness from free kicks is highly documented, but rival sides still struggle to stop the Gunners from these situations.

They have notched 11 times from set-pieces in the league, a couple extra than any other side, with 69% of their goals originating from these situations.

"Arsenal can perform multiple roles now. The whole team has a daunting aura. People are just fearful of them and it is excellent to see."

Title Credentials

What is even more notable about Arsenal's beginning to the campaign is they have also faced Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United at opposition grounds and Manchester City at home - and are still leading by four at the top.

While they maintain victories, their historic competitors face difficulties. This marks the initial occasion at this juncture of the season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four.

The pressure was on head coach Mikel Arteta at the start, having allocated around £250m on eight summer acquisitions in search of that elusive first title since 2004.

But the spending has so far proven successful in impressive fashion, with his side second top scorers in the league and having the tightest defense, despite numerous injuries.

  • Shutouts in each of their last three Premier League games
  • Nearly 6.5 hours without allowing a goal
  • Only a trio of goals in 12 games across various contests

Former players and experts have characterized Arteta's men as a "juggernaut, looking difficult to stop" with the whole club now functioning with conviction and purpose.
