Iranian Forces State Attack on American Facility in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Military Operations.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a significant and ongoing attack against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any destruction is not yet known and the United States has remained silent.
Regional Interceptions
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - said they have shot down incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on areas associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued.
It said missile fragments landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
