Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a difficult season, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-term coach Cervara.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden championship following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface from that period of 2023.

Victory also signifies the Russian has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is really nice," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's counter-punching approach and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had caused commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to come to the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

He recovered from a break down in the first set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

The competitors swapped break points in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

The opponent defended four initial opportunities in a close third set before the champion secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, he earned victory with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to handle a return after a lengthy match.
